The DMC1 is the main system for new installations and utilizes cat5 wiring.  This system can also be used to retrofit 5 to 7 wire NuTone or M&S systems.

The DMC3-4 will update your current 3 or 4 wire NuTone or M&S system by utilizing your existing wiring.  The number of wires that your current system has can be determined by unscrewing a room station and counting the number of wires to that station.  This system is designed to completely replace your existing Master and all remote stations inside and outside your home.  If you are replacing an older M&S system, you don't need to necessarily replace the door speaker, but if your are replacing a NuTone with the DNC3-4, you will need to change out the door speaker as well.  This system will not work with any older room stations.
