This is an interesting antique wind up door
alarm. It is made by the Automatic Alarm Company in Chicago Illinois and
has a patent date of September 2nd 1902. The piece is about 5”
long. It is in working condition. It may have been designed to be used in
a home or for hotel use by travelers and salesman. It has a clockwork type
mechanism under the bell. To wind it up you turn the bell. The piece is
placed on the floor with the single pointed end against the door. The
curved down double pointed end by the bell allows it to stick/hold on to
the wood floor or carpet. When the door is pushed in it activates the
trigger and the bell sounds. The bell has a ring sound similar to an old
telephone or bicycle bell. The bell part is cast brass and has the number
415 cast in the metal on the inside of the bell. |
